Simsbury Sparks Youth Field Hockey offers middle school students an engaging and encouraging environment to learn the sport of field hockey. Serving as the travel team for 7th and 8th graders in Simsbury, our program holds practices at Henry James Memorial School.

Founded in 2018, the organization aims to provide middle school players with the opportunity to participate in organized field hockey. Our program enables players to develop their skills, improve their game, and enjoy the sport, all while preparing them for the demands of high school field hockey.

Throughout the season, the Simsbury Sparks compete against teams from neighboring towns. To prepare our players for the high school level, games are more competitive, and playing time will be determined by effort, sportsmanship, team needs, and attendance, mirroring the approach at Simsbury High School.

For each season, two teams are formed, striving for a similar skill level across both. This is achieved through an evaluation (not a tryout) overseen by external observers when possible. Additionally, if feasible, a separate Select team may be formed by coaches after the season begins, based on players' attitude, skill, and attendance. Typically, each team (excluding Select) will have two weekly practices and one to two weekly games. While most games occur during the week, a few weekend events will also take place each season, which generally runs from the end of August through October 31st. The specific game schedule will be provided after teams are formed.

Please note that field hockey programs for 3rd through 6th graders are managed by Simsbury Parks and Recreation, offering a relaxed and fun setting for younger players to learn fundamental skills!
